Back To School Message From the Cruz Family

Two years ago today Zachary started his first day of kindergarten. Jodie, Miles, Grandma, Ashlee and I were there for this momentous day. Zachary would be in 2nd grade this year. He’d be reading well and doing math. He’d be learning about geography and science. He’d be writing sentences and creating stories.
It’s been a year and half, today, that Zachary’s been gone. He lost his life on February 27, 2009 at 12:52 PM when he was run over by a welding truck, driven by a man who rolled a stop sign, and wasn’t paying attention.
Drivers: please take care, each and every day, as you drive your vehicle. Take your responsibility behind the wheel seriously because your choices matter more than you know.
The decisions you make behind the wheel can affect your life—and the lives of so many others—in profound, and too often, tragic ways. Imagine if you were the man driving the truck that killed our son. Imagine if your son, daughter, or loved one was the victim in the crosswalk. Think seriously about these possibilities the next time you get in your car. Today, at the beginning of another school year, remember Zachary and please drive carefully. [Frank & Jodie]
